Local officials and leaders gather for the groundbreaking ceremony of Rectrix Aviation’s new fixed-based operations facility in Massachusetts.

Jim McGovern, Massachusetts congressman, Tom Glynn, CEO of the Massachusetts Port Authority (Massport) and Tim Murray, president and CEO of Worcester Chamber were among officials and leaders to join Rectrix Aviation for the official groundbreaking of the company’s new $5 million FBO facility at Worcester Regional Airport.

“We are thrilled to be partnering with Massport on this very exciting new project,” said Rich Cawley, president and CEO of Rectrix Aviation. “Like Massport, we believe in the vision and potential of this airport to serve as an economic driver for the region and know that this facility will be an important part of attracting large corporate carriers and new businesses to Worcester.”

The new facility will cost Rectrix $5 million to build and will serve as a full-service centre and include maintenance, storage and a training and conference centre.

“Rectrix’s investment at the airport is another testament to Worcester’s strength as a transportation hub,” said congressman McGovern. “This new operation creates new jobs in Worcester today, but as importantly, it will be a key driver in attracting future economic developments to the greater Worcester region for years to come.”

The new Worcester facility is one of two fixed based operations that Rectrix will be constructing as a result of a multi-million dollar contract awarded by Massport. In addition to Worcester Regional Airport, Rectrix will also begin construction of a fixed operations base at L.G. Hanscom Field in Bedford, Massachusetts.

“Airports are economic engines and Rectrix’s entry into Worcester Regional Airport will create jobs and economic benefits for Central Massachusetts,’’ said Massport CEO Thomas Glynn. “Businesses rely on corporate aircraft to conduct business – it’s an extension of the board room. We welcome Rectrix Aviation’s investment at Worcester Airport.”

Timothy Murray, president and CEO, Worcester Regional Chamber of Commerce, said: “The sale of the Worcester Regional Airport to Massport paved the way for new capital investment at the facility allowing for Rectrix to locate in Worcester. Rectrix’s presence and investment is further evidence of Worcester’s growth as a road, rail, and air transportation hub.”

“This project marks a major milestone for the Worcester Regional Airport and signifies what the vision of this facility is all about,” added Andrew Davis, manager of Worcester Regional Airport. “From day one, Rectrix, a local, Massachusetts based company, has been invested in the economic development of this community, creating jobs for the skilled residents of Worcester, while also attracting businesses from across the globe.”
