Hong Kong Business Aviation Centre (HKBAC) has opened its new, Muslim-friendly-certified terminal.

The facility features Asia’s first 26m sky canopy stretching from the terminal to the apron, upgraded customs, immigration and quarantine (CIQ) facilities and VVIP suites.

The terminal has also obtained certification from global halal travel authority CrescentRating, making it the first airport lounge project to receive the Muslim-friendly certification, said HKBAC.

Mable Chan, secretary for Transport and Logistics, said: “With the commissioning of the Hong Kong International Airport three-runway system in November 2024, Hong Kong’s aviation industry is entering an era of unprecedented opportunity. HKBAC’s handling capacity will double, meeting the keen demand for business aviation in the Greater Bay Area and beyond.”

HKBAC expansion plan is split into two phases, with a total investment of HK$500m (USD$64m) to date.

Fred Lam, chairman of the Airport Authority Hong Kong, said: “The expansion of the Business Aviation Centre is especially timely, coming at a time when the three-runway system of Hong Kong International Airport was commissioned last November that removed the constraints that previously limited business aviation’s development.”

The second phase of the in-situ expansion is underway, focusing on the refurbishment of the existing terminal to better meet the diverse demands of the high-end market, including charter flights, pet travel and group tours. Completion is expected in the first quarter of 2026.
