Brazilian aerospace giant Embraer is exploring opportunities to bolster its supply chain in India in view of the country’s growing capabilities in the aviation and defense sectors.

The announcement comes after a high-level delegation from Embraer concluded a visit to India this week, evaluating potential suppliers for aerostructures, machining, sheet metal, composites, forgings, wire harness, and hardware and software development.

“India has a robust aviation and defense industry, and we see strong viability for manufacturers and systems developers in India to be key suppliers to Embraer,” said Roberto Chaves, executive vice-president of global procurement and supply chain, Embraer. “We are driven by a common vision, which is to drive the aviation capabilities of Brazil and India to greater heights, and to deliver value to our customers around the world.”

The company said that with a fleet of over 44 aircraft in the country, including commercial, executive, and military jets, India is a strategic market for the Brazilian aerospace company.

One of Embraer’s key future opportunities in India is the Indian Air Force’s Medium Transport Aircraft (MTA) program. In partnership with Mahindra, Embraer is well-positioned to offer the C-390 Millennium transport aircraft, a modern and efficient solution.

If selected for the MTA program, Embraer and Mahindra plan to implement an extensive local supply chain programme in India, which may include setting up an assembly line for the C-390. This initiative aims to support the Indian government’s “Make in India” initiative and provide long-term support to the Indian Air Force.

By expanding its supply chain in India, Embraer seeks to leverage the country’s skilled workforce and manufacturing capabilities to enhance its global competitiveness and meet the growing demand for its products.
