Avflight breaks ground on new facility at Detroit City Airport

Avflight alongside Detroit City leadership officially broke ground on its new facility at Coleman A. Young International Airport in June.
This milestone represents the latest chapter in the airport’s modernisation efforts.
“With its proximity to the city’s business district and automotivation efforts. industry, this new general aviation terminal will serve as a gateway to commerce, tourism and opportunity,” said Avflight’s Joe Meszaros. “It will stand as a beacon of growth, job creation and educational opportunity for Detroit citizens.”
Avflight‘s multimillion-dollar investment underscores its long-term commitment to Detroit’s aviation future. The new FBO will serve the local general aviation community with fuel and ground handling services, an FBO terminal, a new heated hangar and an attached parking garage.
This expands upon earlier plans, reflecting Avflight’s confidence in the potential of Detroit as a premier general aviation hub. Construction is scheduled for completion in December 2025.

Young International Airport,” said Meszaros. “With Avflight’s partnership and the city’s ongoing investments, Detroiot is poised to become a world-class gateway that drives economic vitality and provides broad opportunities for our community.”
The city is leading improvements at the airport recently the $3.5m runway renovation was completed and LED taxi lighting upgrades. The airport has upcoming investments, such as ramp pavement improvements, a new engineered material arresting system, a new control tower (planned for 2026), airport upgrades, upgraded snow removal equipment and expanded educational partnerships aimed at fostering aviation careers among Detroit youth.
Avflight, which has operated at Detroit since 2011, can lead this next phase of growth at the airport.
