Work has begun at Stansted Airport on a new hangar and office complex for Mohammed Al-Fayed’s Fayair, say sources at the airport.
Uttlesford District Council approved the plans to erect a “new aircraft storage hangar and associated ancillary accommodation” in April 2011. It is believed the hangar will be used to hold Al-Fayed’s Gulfstream jet and as well as functioning as a FBO.
This is not the first time Al-Fayed has been involved in Aviation. The businessman formed Metro Business Aviation in 1995 after acquiring it from the Hunting Group. Al-Fayed operated the Battersea heliport between 1998 and 2003, before the company changed its name to Harrods Aviation in 2003. He eventually sold Harrods to Qatar Holdings in 2010.
Al-Fayed declined to comment on the story.
