Desert Jet Maintenance is urging four ways charter operators, flight departments and aircraft owners can dodge the frustrations of limited service availability during the busy fourth quarter (Q4) of the year.

Service centre availability becomes limited during the peak travel months of Q4, often leading to delayed repairs and grounded aircraft.  Scheduling routine maintenance during the slower summer period enables operators to ensure their aircraft remain available when demand peaks in the autumn and holiday travel season, according to the firm.

“We see it every year – operators who delay maintenance often find themselves grounded at the worst possible time,” said Jared Fox, CEO, Desert Jet Maintenance. “Planning ahead keeps aircraft mission-ready and schedules intact.”

To dodge the delays, Desert Jet is advising clients to: plan ahead, address scheduled inspections early, bundle repairs and upgrades and to factor in lead times.  Planning  ahead involves booking business jet maintenance during the quieter summer months when demands for slots in service centres is lower than in the last three months of the year.

Scheduling early inspections will also help to reduce the risk of unexpected downtime later.

Bundle repairs and upgrades will help to maximise the use of what time is available in service centres. “Consolidating work into one visit saves time and maximises availability,” according to the maintenance specialist.

Finally, factoring in delivery lead times can help to avoid delays and unplanned aircraft-on-ground events. Parts procurement and service slot scheduling often take longer during peak season, said the company.

Valente Camarillo. general manager, Desert Jet Maintenance said: “To avoid downtime when aircraft availability is critical, operators should complete planned maintenance now. A proactive approach ensures aircraft are ready for immediate dispatch when travel ramps back up.”

Desert Jet Maintenance, an FAA-certified Part 145 Repair Station, is cutting labour costs by 50% for scheduled maintenance at their repair station in Thermal, southern California until the end of the summer. Over the same period, it is also providing complimentary hangar space and a courtesy aircraft prior to return to service.
