British International Helicopters to close Isles of Scilly route
BIH will close its Penzance to Isles of Scilly passenger route from November 2012
British International
Helicopters (BIH) has confirmed it is to close its domestic helicopter
passenger route between Penzance and the Isles
of Scilly from November 2012.
Managing director Tony
Jones, said “The route has run for 49 years so this is an extremely sad
announcement for BIH, its employees and its customers – in fact the whole of
West Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly. Unfortunately we had no alternative.”
BIH have tried to find an
another site to operate from but had to withdraw an application at the end of
2011 to relocate to St Erth.
Sadly, financial presure on
the company has been compounded by falling passenger numbers and rising costs,
BIH had no choice but to close the route from November.
