Leading Moscow aviation lawyer and musician passed away last night

Andrew Muriel a leading aviation finance lawyer and successful musical composer died last night. He was 58-years-old.

Muriel was a partner in DLA Piper’s Moscow office where he specialised in aviation finance. His clients included private aircraft buyers and banks and lessors working in Russia.  He had over 30 year’s aviation finance experience.

“Andrew was a very highly successful and very well respected aircraft finance specialist,” said Janet Legrand, senior partner at DLA Piper. “His clients and colleagues adored him and all who knew him were infected by his good humour and enthusiasm.”

While he was enthusiastic about his work, Muriel’s real passion was music. He played the piano, guitar and clarinet and recorded his music with the Bolshoi Theatre Orchestra and at Moscow Film Studios.

In the late 1990s, while working for Watson Farley& Williams, he found time to compose and co-write Tommorrowland a musical which was performed in Moscow in 1999. His second musical Mother Russia was performed at Carnegie Hall in New York last year. This year Muriel had been preparing for another concert in Carnegie Hall on December 2 dedicated to his work.

Two of his songs were named in the Sofia Festival of Top 100 Musicals of the 20th Century.

He died in London. Muriel is survived by his wife, two daughters and two sons.
