The States of Guernsey is a British Crown Dependency, independent from the United Kingdom and outside the European Union. The Registry features a unique set-up, where SGI Guernsey is acting as a service provider for the Guernsey Registrar and DCA. All of the day to day activities are performed by SGIG under the supervision of the DCA & Registrar. Aircraft registered on 2-REG do not need physical presence in Guernsey and the owner does not need to have a company in Guernsey when the aircraft are used for private operations.

The first aircraft was registered on 2-REG in December 2013. Since 2015, Guernsey legislation has been extended to allow 2-REG to issue AOCs. As of the beginning of April 2019, 6 AOC certificates had been issued and more than 460 aircraft had been registered.
