Signature Aviation breaks ground on $10m hangar in Virginia

Signature’s presence at ROA dates to 1957, when it operated under the Piedmont Aviation name.
Signature Aviation has broken ground on a new hangar and office development at Roanoke-Blacksburg Airport (ROA) in Virginia, representing an investment of more than $10m.
The project will add a 22,000sqft hangar with an attached 3,000sqft office and a 14-bay parking lot. The hangar will feature a 28ft high door to accommodate modern large-cabin business jets.
Roanoke-based Lionberger Construction will lead the build, with completion expected in 2027.
Roanoke Regional Airport Commission CEO Mike Stewart said the development reflected growing demand for corporate aviation infrastructure in the region. “We’re thrilled with Signature’s commitment to building new facilities that will support the growing demand for first-class corporate aviation hangar space and services at ROA,” he said.
The ground breaking is part of a broader investment programme at ROA. Signature is also rebuilding its fuel storage facility and in December 2025 completed installation of a self-serve avgas pump for small aircraft operators.
Jim Hopkins, Signature’s senior vice president of Airport Relations and Strategic Programs, said: “This project allows us to build on that foundation with modern infrastructure that responds directly to guest and customer demand.”
