Biggin Hill welcomes 75 aircraft for Olympics opening ceremony
Airport had 75 business aircraft arrivals for the Olympic Games
London Biggin Hill Airport saw 75 business aircraft arrive for the opening ceremony of the London 2012 Olympic Games.
On Friday
morning, approximately 30 aircraft had arrived, with around a dozen parked on the
disused runway 11/29 by lunchtime. The airport had visitors from far and wide, with a party
arriving from Shanghai in China as well as a Canadian party.
The airport will be using
the disused runway as a long stay parking area during the Olympic period. The
terminal apron will be used as a short stay parking area and when passengers
have disembarked the longer stay aircraft will be moved to the disused runway.
Bigin Hill Airport expects to handle an extra 900 business aviation
movements during the Olympic and Paralympic Games period. The airport say that
there are still slots available for late bookings.
