TAG Farnborough Airport has launched this year’s TAG Flying Scholarship.

The annual programme, run under the auspices of the Honourable Company of Air Pilots’ scholarship scheme, enables one person to get his or her private pilot’s licence.

It is part of the airport’s Aviation to Education initiative, which aims to educate local schoolchildren about aviation.

During the 11 years that the scholarship has been available, its recipients have progressed to various roles within the aviation industry, including commercial airline pilot. Last year’s recipient, Leo Tang, underwent flight training at Phoenix Aviation in Lee-on-the-Solent and gained his PPL in the autumn.

He said: “My ultimate goal has always been to pursue a career within the aviation industry, to become a professional pilot and qualify as a flying instructor. The support of the Flying Scholarship has been invaluable, allowing me to make my dreams a reality.”

Brandon O’Reilly, CEO of TAG Farnborough Airport, said: “We are keen to encourage young people to not only become involved in the world of aviation but to reach their full potential, and are extremely proud to support this initiative through our community engagement.”

Potential candidates for the scholarship can apply at www.airpilots.org/career-matters/scholarships/flying-scholarships-2018/ and must be at least 17 years old on 1 June 2018.
