A Deer Jet Gulfstream G650 has landed in Antarctica for the first time.

It is also the first time that a Chinese private jet operator has operated a flight to the continent.

G650 MSN 6143 / N988DJ landed at Wolf’s Fang Airport, Antarctica, on 16 December, after a year-long planning process.

Deer Jet says that the test flight paves the way to opening up charter flights between China and Antarctica.

During the planning process, Deer Jet says that it evaluated hundreds of risk tests, flight routes, and flight support and emergency plans to make sure the flight could be performed safely.

Deer Jet uploaded the GIF below of the aircraft landing on its official WeChat account.
