Hosted by AsBAA’s newly appointed Regional Director Vivienne Bourke, the session focused on the need for regional air navigation and safety improvements, as well as the need for a harmonized regulatory environment.

Representatives from ICAO were joined by AsBAA’s Board of Governor Mike Walsh, and Metrojet director of Safety & quality, Roger Lee.

“It was a privilege to host this delegation in Hong Kong and it shows their recognition of the importance ICAO now place on BizAv across APAC as it continues to grow.” said Walsh, “Today we have heard how BizAv is a significant job creator and economic driver across Asia and we need their further assistance to ensure regional CAA’s – Civil Aviation Authorities, don’t hinder this growth unnecessarily through inconsistent implementation, by simply not engaging with us first as an industry or being inflexible towards BizAv needs when applying ICAO mandates”.

The meeting was held at the Novotel Hotel, right beside the busy Hong Kong International Airport.

“ICAO doesn’t have all the answers, however we recognise the growth and importance of BizAv across the Asian region and it’s in all our interests to ensure safe practises are implemented and adhered to without over burdening certain sectors within Aviation” said Farid Zizi president of ICAO Air Navigation Commission, “We welcome and encourage associations like AsBAA to help highlight the topics that matter most to its members. It was a very interesting and worthwhile discussion today and we take a lot of notes back with us. It’s encouraging none-the-less to witness first-hand the enthusiasm, professionalism and passion shown by the BizAv community in Hong Kong.”
