Founded in 1863 in South Bend, Indiana (as First National Bank of South Bend) the bank focuses on the northern half of Indiana and southwest Michigan. It regularly wins awards from local newspapers like the South Bend Tribune and the Starke County Reader for its personal banking and it is the largest lender to small businesses in the region.

In addition to local banking, 1st Source’s speciality finance business is active across the US financing cars, trucks, construction equipment and business aircraft. In fact 1st Source has been financing aircraft for more than 20 years and has a portfolio of over 600 aircraft.

It might surprise people queuing to cash checks in branches in South Bend, but the bank is also very active financing business aircraft thousands of miles away in South America. 1st Source financed 30 aircraft for corporates and individuals in Mexico, Brazil and Argentina in 2011.

It focuses on loans between $2 million and $15 million.
