Happy Independence Day and enjoy the rest

I am writing this knowing that many of the people who normally read it will be off eating Turkey (or is that Thanksgiving?) and celebrating not being British. Scotland may also soon get that opportunity depending on how a referendum later this year goes.

People involved in US business aviation deserve the day off. Despite the optimism at the start of the year Europe’s business aviation market is still depressed. The Middle East has obvious problems and Asia – while growing – has lost some of its shine. To be fair, Latin America is more positive.

The signs in North America are even more encouraging. Argus TRAQPak analysts estimate there will be a 3.4% increase in overall flight activity year-over-year in June 2014. Brokers and data companies estimate that 60% of all purchases this year have been from US customers and the US aircraft inventory for aircraft under 10 years old is falling.

Most international brokers say they are seeing more interest from the US than their home markets. Hopefully the rest of the year will stay like this and we are seeing the bottom of the pre-owned and light jet downturn. Happy Independence Day and best wishes for an even busier six months.
