It is safety all the way for on-demand private jet charter company XOJET.

The Californian company has conducted the private aviation industry’s first Line Operations Safety Assessment, expanded its flight standards department, and recruited a new director of safety.

It says it has made the investments in response to a “surge” in business during 2017.

“We continue to invest in the areas that matter to our clients,” said XOJET fleet operations president Austin Schell. “The latest investments in safety expertise and capabilities, including the industry-first LOSA milestone, reflect that commitment.”

The company’s new director of safety is Daniel Ramirez, former manager of flight safety at Embraer Aircraft Corporation. He is responsible for the execution and coordination of its safety management system.

He has more than 15 years’ experience in flight training and safety, regulatory compliance, and risk management, and has advised the National Business Aviation Association’s safety committee, the Flight Safety Foundation Business Aviation Council, the Federal Aviation Administration’s GA-Joint Steering Committee, and the International Civil Aviation Organisation’s regional aviation safety group.

A 13% increase in new membership programmes through XOJET Access Solutions prompted the company to double the size of its flight standards department – to 30 standards captains and eight FAA designated check pilots – and to spend seven months carrying out a LOSA, during which specially-trained XOJET pilots observed 132 flights and the resulting data was used to reinforce flights standards and training.

A XOJET spokesman said: “The combination of LOSA and the company’s expanded training capabilities together act as a quality assurance feedback loop, further bolstering XOJET’s capabilities as the premier, on-demand private aviation solutions platform.”

And Ramirez added: “It’s an honour to be part of a company dedicated to the evolution of its own high standard. By employing LOSA into its safety protocols, and creating the flight standards department, XOJET sets new criteria. I look forward to working with this team to expand our capabilities.”
