Synergy Aviation, the UK charter operator, has based a Beechcraft King Air 200 and flight crew in Malta. It will be dedicated to air ambulance work.

The aircraft will operate from Malta Luqa Airport. It has a stretcher system and five passenger seats.

Synergy says the aircraft will be used mainly to fly patients in North Africa to hospital in Malta. It will be available for 24 hours a day. One of its first charters was to Tripoli to collect an oil worker with acute appendicitis.

“Having an air ambulance based in Malta and another based in London gives us the flexibility to react quickly to our customers requirements throughout Europe and North Africa,” said Glen Heavens, managing director of Synergy.  “We are eyeing further opportunities in the Mediterranean.”

Synergy says Malta offers a very high level of medical care and it is co-operating with Medilink International in the country.

Dr Lawrence Gonzi, prime minister of Malta, welcomed the aircraft’s arrival.

Heavens launched Synergy five years ago. The company operates Cessna Citation jets and Beech King Air turboprops and also runs a flying school.
