UK private aircraft charter and management company Synergy Aviation has been acquired by Avia Solutions Group for an undisclosed sum. The purchase will enable the Dublin-based provider for passenger and cargo airlines to expand in the UK.

To be rebranded Ascend Airways, Synergy Aviation has an Air Operator Certificate (AOC) and Type B Operating Licence from the UK CAA.

Jonas Janukenas, CEO, Avia Solutions Group said: “Having a UK AOC will create new opportunities for the group in the UK and will enable us to expand the geographic reach of our ACMI [aircraft, crew, maintenance, and insurance] and charter services.” Avia has operated in the UK aviation market for more than 10 years, managing maintenance, repair and overhaul  (MRO) facilities and charter brokerage businesses.

Alastair Willson will take over the company’s management and development of Avia Solutions Group’s UK charter and ACMI business. Establishing a local AOC will benefit UK airlines, charter customers and consumers, he said. “Our immediate focus is on working with the UK CAA to obtain a Type A Operating License, which shall enable us to offer ACMI and charter services with 180 to 200-seat capacity aircraft by the end of the year. Our aim is then to offer UK customers locally based aircraft and crews to provide a more flexible and reliable service, minimising operational disruptions,” said Willson.

Based at Fairoaks Airport, southwest of London Heathrow, Synergy’s fleet includes two King Air B200s, a Citation Mustang, A Citation CJ2 and Citation Bravo.

With a fleet of 180 aircraft, the Avia Solutions Group includes: SmartLynx Airlines, Avion Express, Bluebird Nordic, KlasJet, and Magma Aviation. The group holds 10 AOCs and plans to expand in Latin America, Southeast Asia and Australia.
