Kona Community Hospital, Hawaii welcomed the Hawaii LifeFlight helicopter as it made its maiden landing on the hospital helipad last week.

The helipad became operational on 14 February at 7am and the first emergency patient was transfered using the helipad at 10.15am that morning.

Hawaii LifeFlight has been contracted to operate an Eurocopter AS350B. The Eurocopter AS350B AStar is stationed at Kona International Airport and is dedicated to Kona Community Hospital and will operate from 7am to dark, based on the pilot’s discretion and flight turn-around time. It is expected that the service will be extended to 24 hours emergency cover soon.

“This is a major accomplishment for Kona Community Hospital and for West Hawaii residents,” said Jay Kreuzer, KCH CEO.  “We’re now able to greatly reduce emergency transit times for patients who require transfer, which in turn will improve outcomes for those patients.”
