Howard and Helmer selected for ‘Big Bertha’ redesign
The Salina Airport Authority board of directors has approved a US$218,994 design contract with the Wichita firm of Howard and Helmer Architecture, at a recent board meeting.
The firm was selected as the best qualified firm to provide the design services for Hangar 959 renovations. Locally known as “Big Bertha,” the hangar will be well-suited for narrow-body aircraft and maintenance, repair and overhaul operations use after the renovations are complete. The hangar is currently occupied by Hawker Beechcraft who are due to vacate the facility soon.
The hangar redesign will include restoring the hangar doors to working order, installing infrared tube heating, installing insulation, improving the hangar lighting and upgrading the fire suppression system to meet current National Fire Protection Association standards.
