Hong Kong extends business aviation night slots trial
A night slot trial for business and general aviation at the congested Hong Kong International Airport has been extended past its original October end date.
AsBAA, the Asian Business Aviation Association, announced in August that it had successfully lobbied the Hong Kong Schedule Coordination Office to extend access to the airport.
Under the trial scheme, two extra slots became available between 16:00 & 20:59 UTC (Universal Time Coordinated), which is 23:00 to 04:59 local time.
Before the trial only four slots were available during the night time, with movements limited to quieter new-generation aircraft, including the Gulfstream G500, G550 and G650, and the Bombardier Global 5000 and 6000.
The additional slots are available for all aircraft types, not just the new generation aircraft.
Although the trial was originally scheduled to conclude on October 7, AsBAA says that this has now been extended until March 31, 2019.
AsBAA says that it has been continuing to lobby for a change since 2016.

Hong Kong International Airport is one of the busiest in the world. Alongside slot restrictions, the airport also suffers from a lack of parking spaces for business aircraft.
Although the Hong Kong Business Aviation Centre operates a sizeable FBO at the airport, the number of visiting aircraft often means that overflow parking is in place, with business jets dotted around the airport.
