Honeywell helps cut costs with more options and services for connectivity solutions
Honeywell is now enabling business jet operators to access the Iridium Certus network. With high-speed data access of up to 700 kbps, Certus easily supports cockpit and cabin activities that require internet access, including flight plans, graphical weather reports, video chatting and email attachments.
The system uses smaller antennas and lighter hardware than previous systems, and is the easiest broadband system to install. This smaller, lighter alternative helps reduce operators’ overall fuel and operational costs. The standard annual service plan may also help reduce costs as much as 50% per megabyte compared with alternative satcom solutions.
Certus services will be available in conjunction with the availability of the Honeywell Aspire 150 and 350 satcom terminals in early 2020, and is available wherever aircraft fly, including over the north and south poles.
Sky Connect available for Tracker 3A and Missions Communications Terminal (MCT)
Honeywell’s Sky Connect services will now be accessible to more operators, greatly increasing safety and situational awareness, enhancing communication between operators and reducing the need for costly satcom telephone calls. This is being done by adding a push-to-talk service for beyond-line-of-sight communications.
Operators using the Tracker 3A satcom system will be able to use Iridium’s Push-to-Talk service and have enhanced flight data monitoring, allowing them to meet mandates around the collection and observation of data. The data analytics tools of the service proactively flag maintenance issues for quality assurance, helping operators to identify aircraft and operations issues that may lead to unsafe conditions. Sky Connect for the Tracker 3A also supports a new cellular radio for post-flight offloading of collected data.
In addition, the MCT is a new digital controller that will increase a flight crew’s in-flight communication capabilities, with support for Iridium Push-to-Talk, telephone, text messaging and manual alerting. The MCT expands the Tracker 3A’s flight data connectivity with 12 discrete ports and one ARINC429 input.
