Fokker opens Mexican facility
Fokker Aerostructures has opened a new facility in Chihuahia, Mexico
Fokker Aerostructures has opened a brand-new production facility in Chihuahua, Mexico. Production has started with the manufacturing of tail sections for business jets. The first completed products are expected to be delivered in April 2012. In the near future the facility will also produce other aerostructures work packages. Fokker will further explore the possibility of starting up activities in Mexico for its other businesses such as electrical systems.
The company designs and produces the tail sections for the Gulfstream G550, the Gulfstream G650 and the Dassault SMS business jets as well as the NH90 helicopter.
Fokker expects to achieve significant extra growth through this new location, in addition to the strong growth at its facilities in the Netherlands. Fokker’s partner in the project is American Industries, a Mexican company that has supported leading aerospace industries in the start-up and management of their production activities in Mexico.
“A tremendous performance has been achieved by a large multidisciplinary team from Fokker in partnership with American Industries, the Chihuahua government and our customers. Within a very short time and working simultaneously, a great location has been built with state-of-the-art production processes and staffed by excellent employees. This increase in our global presence will enable us to further strengthen our competitive position”, said Hans Büthker, chief operating officer of Fokker Technologies.
