“I think people often get consumed with “winning” a point and lose sight of the practical implications. You need to have a results-oriented and business minded approach to these deals.

“You must avoid overlooking the details. This might sound obvious, but given the time pressures we deal with, I often see things overlooked, and it’s certainly understandable. Some of these details are insignificant to the overall deal, but others are small in terms of their prominence within a document, but carry a potentially disproportionately large impact to the overall deal. It’s a lesson I preach to junior lawyers all of the time, but I see senior lawyers make this mistake quite often too.”

“I’ve always had an interest in aviation and as a young M&A lawyer I was involved with AMR’s acquisition of TWA. I did a lot of M&A work for GE and a few years after the AMR deal, a number of large US carriers started filing for bankruptcy and I began representing GE, which was often the largest creditor of these airlines. Having gotten my start during an industry down cycle, I really appreciate the good times, but am keenly aware of how things can come apart quickly in this industry.”

Deepak’s aviation practice focuses on the representation of airlines, aircraft leasing companies, financial institutions, and investment funds in connection with M&A, financing, and leasing transactions. He has been involved in virtually every major US airline restructuring over the last 10 years. He also leads the Firm’s Business Jet Practice and advises Fortune 500 companies and high-net-worth individuals in connection with various types of  business jet transactions including acquisitions, dispositions, financing, leasing, charter, and fractional jet and time share programs.

Deepak is a member of the American Bar Association and its Aircraft Financing Subcommittee and Forum on Air & Space Law, the National Business Aviation Association, The Wings Club, the Association of the Bar of the City of New York, and the New York State Bar Association.
