McLaren Construction begins to build A J Walter Aviation new Global headquarters at Slinfold, UK

Building began on the new A J
Walter Aviation Global headquarters and logistics centre close to Gatwick Airport
in the UK. The
site is on a footprint of over 60 acres and will initially provide over 240,000
square feet office and storage facilities for AJW’s extensive range of Airbus
and Boeing components, engines and consumables.

“It will provide a first class experience
for visitors and employees will benefit from modern, streamlined and efficient
office layouts, a training ‘theatre’, on-site catering and restaurant, as well
as outstanding sports and leisure facilities, and guest accommodation” said
Christopher Whiteside, president of A J Walter Aviation.

“We are spearheading a global strategy
designed to deliver exponential growth for the business” says Andy Smith,
logistics director of A J Walter Aviation. “Our future path will demand
facilities of the highest standard and the only way to ensure all of our
technical, organisational and social priorities are met is to design and build
our own exceptional environment.”

Roy Jones, project manager at McLaren Construction,
who is supervising the project on site added “All of the aggregates from the
existing buildings are being recycled to reduce CO² emissions and traffic
congestion and we will be installing renewable energy sources on site. We are
committed to achieving the highest BREEAM rating possibly through the implementation
of best practice in sustainable building design, construction and operation.
We’re delighted to say that we are ahead of schedule and AJW’s new facility
will open in summer 2012.”
