Comlux has signed a VIP interior completion for an ACJ320 NEO aircraft owned by a private customer in Asia. The Airbus Corporate Jet aircraft is to be delivered green by Airbus in September 2019 and is scheduled to take about ten months to complete at Comlux’s Indianapolis facilities.

“We are very proud to sign this new VIP completion contract for the future ACJ320 neo aircraft.”

Scott Meyer, CEO of Comlux Completion, said: “We are very proud to sign this new VIP completion contract for the future ACJ320 NEO aircraft.

“We are committed to delivering this VIP interior within one of the shortest completion cycles to date. It was key for us to sign [as soon as possible] to optimize the lead-time execution for design, engineering and custom fabrication phases prior to input so we can revolutionize the integration and certification phases that occur in hangar.”

Meyer told Corporate Jet Investor that the company had developed a “new model” for working with MAX8 and NEO aircraft, and were starting as much as 12 months earlier than they normally would to finish all the engineering and fabrication elements, including furniture, seating and IFE/CMS systems, before input. This allows the company to spend downtime focusing on fuselage modifications, integration, testing and certification.

“This requires robust engineering to ensure final installation at first approach versus iterative fit solutions while certain systems and aircraft side engineering solutions are developed,” he said.

The lead time into a project was the “biggest opportunity” to reduce the amount of downtime needed, and convincing clients to make the most of it and start very early was “the key to success, and the Comlux Commercial team has succeeded in this instance”.

Starting earlier also meant that clients had to start making key decisions much earlier in the process. A strong partnership with the client was needed to achieve this.

“We are running several ACJ NEO and BBJ MAX cabin sales campaigns right now and we are expecting to sign more contracts before the end of the year. This completion is the first in a series of new and exciting challenges for Comlux Completion,” Meyer added.
