In 2009, Bombardier Aerospace continued to develop new products with a reduced environmental footprint. Bombardier Aerospace played a major role in mobilizing all business aviation stakeholders, including its competitors, to establish a firm commitment on behalf of the worldwide business aviation industry towards the reduction of CO2 emissions.
Currently, aviation is responsible for two per cent of overall CO2 emissions. On the eve of the 2009 Copenhagen Summit, the commercial aviation industry committed to a 50 per cent reduction of its CO2 emissions by 2050. However, this commitment did not include the business aviation sector. Bombardier, as a manufacturer of both business and commercial aircraft, took a proactive approach to rally the global business aviation industry around ambitious environmental targets.
As a whole, the aviation industry has committed to carbon-neutral growth by 2020 and to a 50 per cent reduction of its CO2 emissions by 2050, relative to 2005 levels.
