Bombardier Global 8000 Sets LA to Farnborough speed record
The Los Angeles to Farnborough record is the latest in a series of milestones for the Global 8000.
Bombardier’s Global 8000 has set a new speed record on the Los Angeles to Farnborough route, completing the city pair in 8 hours and 46 minutes at a top speed of Mach 0.93 – 2.2% faster than the previous record for the same route.
The record was set against unfavourable tailwinds, with the aircraft flying direct to Farnborough to take part in the 2026 Farnborough International Airshow, where it is making its debut this week in aerial displays.
“This new speed record illustrates the truly special attributes of this incredible aircraft, the industry leader in terms of speed, agility and performance,” said Stephen McCullough, executive vice president, Engineering, Product Development and Bombardier Defense. “Speed is without a doubt the Global 8000’s calling card, and this latest accomplishment aptly underscores what sets this aircraft apart – the ability to bring the world closer than ever before.”
The Global 8000 has a certified top speed of Mach 0.95 and a range of 8,000 nautical miles, making it the fastest civil aircraft currently in production. Bombardier says the aircraft can access up to 30% more airports than its nearest competitor due to its short-field landing performance.
The Los Angeles to Farnborough record is the latest in a series of milestones for the Global 8000 since its entry into service, following recent first deliveries in Africa and Asia.
