BlueSky FBO breaks ground on $54m Puerto Rico facility
The facility is located about five minutes from the airport's commercial terminals and less than 15 minutes from San Juan's principal finance and tourism districts.
BlueSky FBO has broken ground on a new $54m fixed base operator (FBO) at Luis Muñoz Marín International Airport.
The privately financed project is claimed to be the largest private investment in Puerto Rican business aviation infrastructure in more than a decade. The five-acre facility is scheduled for completion in summer 2028, with operations expected to begin the following autumn.
“Business aviation continues to evolve, and Puerto Rico needs infrastructure that supports the next generation of international operators,” said José Maldonado, senior partner of BlueSky San Juan. “It has been designed to deliver an elite experience while reinforcing Puerto Rico’s strategic role as the Caribbean gateway to the US mainland.”
BlueSky is expected to generate approximately 30 construction jobs, 60 to 80 permanent direct positions, and an estimated 110 indirect jobs through the project.
The facility will include an 8,000sqft executive terminal, more than 60,000sqft of hangar space and approximately 275,000sqft of aircraft apron.
Inside, amenities include executive lounges, dedicated pilot facilities, conference and flight-planning rooms, concierge services and ground transportation. The FBO will also feature an integrated US Customs and Border Protection inspection facility, allowing eligible international arrivals to clear customs directly at the FBO.
BlueSky will provide a range of services, including aircraft fuelling, line services, aircraft and cargo handling, hangar rental, aircraft marshaling and towing, ground support equipment, concierge services, inflight catering, customs coordination, executive transportation and support for domestic and international operations.
Puerto Rico-based operators will also benefit from immediate ramp access and direct connections to the island’s primary highway network.
The project has received key approvals from the US FAA, Aerostar Airport Holdings, environmental agencies, and US Customs and Border Protection. The remaining operational certifications are progressing in coordination with the appropriate federal and local agencies, said BlueSky.
