Gulfstream celebrates 25 years of Gulfstream IV
Gulfstream today celebrated the 25th anniversary of the first flight of the Gulfstream IV.
The company says it is the best-selling large-cabin, long-range business jet in the world with more than 520 of the 536 jets produced in the GIV series still flying.
“The GIV was the aircraft that launched a thousand Gulfstream aircraft,” said Joe Lombardo, president, Gulfstream. “It formed the foundation for designing and building the G300, G400, G350 and G450. The aircraft’s first flight was a milestone and turning point for the company.”
Gulfstream rushed to complete the aircraft so it could attend the 1985 National Business Aviation Association (NBAA) convention in New Orleans. At the time Gulfstream has sold more than 80 GIVs worth $1.3 billion. This was a record for any business jet at the time.
The first aircraft entered service on June 8, 1987 with the last GIV being delivered to a customer on September 13, 2003. In 2005, the G400 and G300 were replaced by the G450 and G350. On June 22, 2010, the 200th G450 obtained its Certificate of Airworthiness.
