The static display of aircraft at EBACE 2014 in Geneva

Europe’s biggest business aviation show – the European Business Aviation Convention and Exhibition (EBACE) – starts with a press day in Geneva on Monday May 20 followed by three days of trade show.  After a bullish 2018 show, the mood in European Business Aviation has dampened.

According to WINGX`s latest monthly Business Aviation Monitor, there were 3.1% fewer business aviation flights in April 2019 compared with April 2018. The data company says that 12-month activity is trending just under 1% growth, 10% up on the recession trough in 2009, but still 11% down on the high-point back in 2008.

There was a big drop in business jet activity in April 2019, 5% fewer flights YOY, with an 8% decline in privately-filed flights. Small and Medium size jets had most of the decline, with at least 10% YOY falls in activity in the key markets of France, UK and Switzerland.

New aircraft announcements?

Aircraft manufacturers have often used EBACE to launch aircraft (last year saw the Bombardier Global 5500 and Global 6500 being announced before the show) but this year there are no obvious contenders.

Beginner’s guide to EBACE

If you have not been to the show before here is the ultimate guide.

You can still get a room at the President Wilson on Tuesday night for $926 – but they are selling out fast.
