Dassault has uploaded the first promotional video for its new Falcon 8X, a week after the new aircraft was announced, which is now available to view on YouTube.

As Corporate Jet Investor predicted in March, Dassault used the recent European Business Aviation Conference & Exhibition (EBACE) as the platform to launch its new Falcon 8X private jet.

Going under the previous project name M1000, the Falcon 8X takes the basic fuselage of the Falcon 7X and stretches it by an extra meter.

However, the main selling feature of the Falcon 8X will be the additional 500 nautical miles of range that the aircraft offers over the Falcon 7X.

To achieve this, the French manufacturer has re-worked the 7X wing, strengthening it to cope with the additional fuselage weight, but also adding to the fuel capacity.

Although the Falcon 8X range puts it firmly at the top end of the Falcon product range, it is still some way short of the Gulfstream G650ER that was announced on the same day, as well as the upcoming Bombardier Global 7000 and 8000.

With a maximum range of 6,450 nautical miles, the Falcon 8X closest competitor will be the 450-plus selling Gulfstream G550, which has an additional 300 nautical miles of range, but costs an extra $3 million over the $55 million price tag on the Falcon 8X.

Direct operating costs, which Dassault currently estimates at $4,100 per hour, are roughly the same as the Falcon 7X, but $880 per hour lower than the Gulfstream G550 that it competes against.
