Business jets shine at 2014 Farnborough International Airshow

Not often at an international airshow does a smaller business aircraft manufacturer make the biggest headlines but it happened at the 2014 Farnborough International Airshow.

Something rare happened last week at the 2014 Farnborough International Airshow. Piaggio Aero, manufacturer of the P.180 Avanti II and Avanti EVO outshown its larger business jet counterparts.

The Italian based manufacturer announced a 50 aircraft order for its Avanti twin-engined turboprop from Bravia Capital based in Hong Kong. The order comprises of 10 firm orders and 40 options which can be converted at any time in the future. Piaggio also had a delivery ceremony for SR Jet of China, handing over the Avanti II in the static.

Piaggio also made an important announcement regarding an exclusive agent for the UK, Republic of Ireland, Isle of Man and the Channel Islands, when they appointed Connectjets based in UK.

Farnborough is not really a show meant to showcase business aviation, it has over the years developed more into a show for commercial airliners and the defense industry but it is good to see the business aircraft manufacturers supporting the event.

Textron Aviation made its Farnborough debut and at its chalet Corporate Jet Investor interviewed Kriya Short, senior vice president of Sales & Marketing.

Textron displayed a Cessna 208B Grand Caravan EX and King Air 350ER. The new Cessna Citation X+ also made a fleeting appearance.

Airbus also displayed an Airbus Corporate Jet.

Not to be outdone, Boeing had one of their own BBJs fly out on Wednesday evening with two senior executives who had a Thursday meeting in Chicago.

Bombardier Aerospace also brought the Challenger 350 to Farnborough for the first time along with a Learjet 75. Later in the week, the Challenger 350 flew out and was replaced by a Challenger 605.

Bombardier Aerospace displayed the Global 7000 mock-up at TAG Farnborough. TAG Farnborough had their own piece of news during the airshow.

Dassault Aviation displayed two business jet aircraft, a Falcon 7X and Falcon 2000LXS.

Gulfstream made a welcome return to the show with a chalet and two aircraft, the G280 and G650 business jets.

Embraer displayed a Legacy 650, which was shoe-horned between an ERJ135 and E-190.

Finally, Eclipse Aerospace had their Total Eclipse on display. It was flown in the flying display by Bruce ‘Aces High’ Dickinson, the lead singer in heavy metal band Iron Maiden.
